We are a day and a half in and it feels like we never even had a break. I love how quickly students get back into the routine, even if it can be hard. I just wanted to send some reminders home now that we are back in action.
Math
We are doing some shifting of how math is structured as a way for me to zone in and help those students who have gaps in their understanding of concepts we have covered the first few months of school. Right now I have set aside 45 minutes each day for the grade 7s and 8s to have math separately. This just gives me smaller groups to work with, help, and lead.
Here is a link to the math plan for January. Please check it out and let me know if you have any questions.
ELA
We are still working on short story writing. We have generated criteria of what we think grade 7 and grade 8 story writing should look like. Students will need to turn in their best piece in this genre by the end of the month. They know what I will be looking for and will be continued to be reminded of this as we progress.
Social Studies
We are studying Ancient Greece. Tomorrow we will be having a debate on where students would have rather lived - Sparta or Athens. We will then start focusing on the Olympic Games and look to see where and why this tradition started.
Science
We are in the middle of our study on light and optics. Right now we are focusing on types of visible light and sources. Next we will be looking more in depth at the idea of color.

Reminders:
- Basketball practices are happening almost daily after school.
- Next week a representative from Roseau River Bible Camp will set up during a lunch hour and give kids a chance to visit and ask questions. Kids who do so are entered in a draw to receive a $100 credit towards a camp session.
