ELA
- We are looking at argument/debate style essays. We have looked at multiple texts and have discovered elements such as a central claim, supporting evidence, counter argument and rebuttal. We are in the process of choosing topics we want to write about and are drafting for each of the above elements.
- We are still wrapping up fictional writing. I have a few grade 8s left to conference with before taking in their final fictional pieces.
Math
- We have covered all the foundational outcomes for this year in math. We have new stuff to continue to learn but are also in the reach back mode where we are trying to close gaps and address any misconceptions. We wrote our first foundational quiz this past Wednesday so kids know which outcomes they need to work on.
- We are taking time now to work in small groups on areas that have been shown to be most problematic.
- The second quiz will be written in a couple weeks. Following this quiz there will be more individual pull out help.
Social Studies
- Students are working in groups to put together a video containing information on Ancient Greece. They each wrote an individual script and are now working as a team to record all scripts and turn into a final project.
Science
- We are wrapping up our work on optics. Students are putting together an informational page spread on a topic they choose that relates to the big idea of optics.
Let me know if you have any questions!
